News from 143rd street
Just like the last couple of years the firehouse is packed with
activity . Annual inspection is in the end of May so for the next
three weeks the brothers will be busy getting the house ready.
Between the additional days of B.I., company medicals, education
day and training regularly at the rock the schedule was full.
In keeping with tradition, the house will be ready and pass inspection.
May 19th There will be a house party at the Manheim Club. Promotion,
Retirement, Grade etc.
June 4th is our 36th annual Memorial Mass. This was another
difficult year for the Green Berets. Several formal members passed
away and we will be remembering them at the mass.

The number of retired members attending the Mass has been dropping
off in the last few years. Dont wait until your name is
on the memorial board . The Mass is a great place to come and
remember the good times and old friends. It is important for the
young firefighters to see and learn some of the traditions that
made this house great.
June 8th is Medal day. This years ceremony will be held at the
Intrepid air space museum in Manhattan. The Bronx coalition will
at the Morrisania Yacht Club on City Island.
July 7th is the Paul Murphy E60/L17 flotilla. This will be the
fifth annual flotilla held at the boat club at Tobay beach in
Wantagh L.I. Horseshoes, corn hole, food, beer and a lot of laughs.
Contact: Gary Pekusic E60 .This is a great event and is open to
all current and former members. You can come by boat or drive
and be picked up at the dock.
August 18th is the family Picnic Luau at Salesian H.S. in New
Rochelle. Picnic starts at about noon and ends at 6 p.m. Food,
drink, pool and games for the kids.
Friday September 9th is our annual Long Beach get together. Rain
or Shine it will be held this date.
Sunday September 11, 2011 is the 10th anniversary of the 9/11
attacks. The day will be remembered with numerous memorials and
tributes. Please remember all our fallen brothers in your prayers.
It is with regret we announce the end of a House tradition. Last
year was the last Harold Hoey Senior luncheon. The response has
been dropping the last couple of years and we felt that the money
could be used for more productive things. We are considering using
it for a scholarship for some local students or putting it toward
our trips to visit the wounded veterans.
We are planning to play the Veterans from Ray Callinans
VFW post again. We are looking at the second week in June. When
details are finalized we will post them on our website.
Bobby Charboneau is running a couples night out on June 25th.
It will be at the Bowlmar lanes 222 west 44st in Manhattan. For
more information call Bobby at the firehouse.
The 14th Battalion golf outing is being held again this year
at the Hanah Mountain Resort on September 15 -16 2011. If you
didnt make it last year you missed a great get together.

August 26th until September 5th 2011 the world police fire games
come to New York. This is once in a lifetime event. There will
be over 17,000 athletes from all around the world . There are
67 sports and as many as 11 age categories.(18 - 85+). The events
will take place in numerous parts of the city as well as Upstate,
Long Island, New Jersey and Connecticut. We are looking for volunteers
to help with these events. If you are interested in participating

The firehouse on 143rd st is abuzz with activity this time of year.

May 20, 2010 there will be a party
at the Pitz Stop in Queens hosted by our members who recently got
off probation.
May 23 is the annual FD vs. PD football
game at Hofstra University on Long Island. Ladder 17s Wil Greenberg
is playing and we are planning to tailgate.
June 4 is the 39 annual Harold Hoey
seniors luncheon. The members of the firehouse prepare a turkey
lunch for approximately 100 senior citizens from the community.
This luncheon was started by F.F. Harry Hoey in 1971 and has been
a tradition that has been carried on by Tom Mahoney, John Rohr and
now by Steve Bowles.
The following Saturday is our 35th annual Memorial Mass. This was
a difficult year for the Green Berets. Several formal members passed
away and we will be remembering them at the mass.

On June 10th we are planning a trip
to Baltimore Maryland for a Yankee Game. This will be a 2 day trip
with a bus leaving from the firehouse Thursday morning June 10th,

Wednesday June 16, we are playing Ray
Callahan's VFW post in Mahopac. This is the fifth year we will be
playing the Veterans are hoping to keep our record perfect. This
game is open for all former members who wish to play. Always a good
time and cocktails after the game at the VFW post. If interested

We will be making another visit to the Walter
Reid Army Hospital in Washington D.C. this June
18,19th. The 14th Battalion will be hosting a firehouse type
BBQ lunch for our wounded warriors. If you ordered shirts and did
not receive them we are sorry for the delay. We had a very large
number of shirts on back order and the printer tells us they are
on the way. Willie, we did not forget you.

Kenny Francis, John Disalvo and Billy Welsh are going to organize
the Christmas/Holiday get together for retired/active members again
this year. Last years were a great success and they are planning
to have it around the same week in December.
